Hannah Justen – PhD Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Wet lab

DNA extraction from blood or feathers, RFLP development, PCR, sexing and library preparation for subsequent sequencing.

Field work

Mainly in British Columbia, Alaska and Washington working with songbirds including target capture, morphometrics and fitting miniature tracking devices to collect movement data of single individuals.

Teaching

It is a great pleasure to teach biology classes as well as mentor undergraduate students on research projects as it provides a great opportunity to pass on knowledge to enthusiastic students and encourage their development.

My name is Hannah Justen and I currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Eva Fischer’s lab (ekfischerlab.com) at UC Davis.

I am interested in the genetic basis of behavioral traits and how they maintain reproductive barriers between divergent species and facilitate the process of speciation.
